Dad, son accused of coercion to get jobs
A MAN and his son who got renovation jobs by bullying homeowners and workers in a neighborhood in Baoshan District have been charged with coercion, prosecutors said yesterday.
Prosecutors said the men, surnamed Zhu, were responsible for cleaning up construction waste in the neighborhood. They also sold sand and offered renovation services but no one hired them since their price was high.
In 2011, they started to force owners and other workers to accept their service by threatening physical harm, refusing to clean up construction waste and making off with construction tools, officials said. They are accused of arming themselves with hammers and wooden sticks to intimidate others, prosecutors said. The two men were arrested in September when more than 10 homeowners called police.
