Dangerous toys taken off shelves at markets

SOME toys and baby carriers sold in local hypermarkets were found to be hazardous to children, local industrial and commercial authorities said yesterday.

A Feilun remote helicopter sold at Tesco Zhenbei branch had parts that may hurt children, while the package of a stuffed bear may cause children to suffocate, said the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau.

Meanwhile, a walker for toddlers sold at the Century Lianhua Mall Middle Ring Road branch also could cause suffocation. A Huofenghuang roller skater contained tiny parts that children may swallow. And a bicycle for children had sharp parts that could be dangerous.

A doll sold at the Toys "R" Us Daning branch had small parts, and its package of thin plastic film may also cause suffocation, officials said.

According to law, toys with tiny parts must have a highly visible warning saying they are unsuitable for kids under three. Officials said all the products were withdrawn.
