Death boat driver 'most responsible'
THE driver of a speedboat which crashed on Taihu Lake in Jiangsu Province last Wednesday, killing four Shanghai students, was mainly responsible for the accident, according to a police report issued yesterday.
The skippers of the two vessels connected by a cable which the speedboat hit also bear responsibility, the report said. The three skippers have all been detained by police.
The speedboat driver, Feng Ke'er, was believed to have taken his boat between a cargo ship and tug boat and ran into the line linking them, according to the publicity department of the Suzhou committee of the Communist Party of China. Feng was also found to have been drinking. His blood alcohol level of 0.54mg/ml, over the legal limit of 0.34mg/ml, said police.
