Delivery man 'had fake cash'
A DELIVERY worker has been arrested for allegedly buying and transporting counterfeit money using the delivery company he worked for as a front, police said yesterday.
The cash, with a face value of 100,000 yuan (US$15,000), was seized before it could enter circulation.
The suspect, surnamed Wang, worked at a delivery company in the suburban Qingpu District, police said.
Wang is alleged to have bought the money from neighboring Anhui Province. The cash was hidden among goods or stored in pillows, said officers, who received a tip-off.
Wang was arrested on June 28, the same day the money was transported to Shanghai.
At 3am when the delivery vehicle arrived at the depot, Wang allegedly took away a package which had not yet been subject to security checks.
As soon as Wang opened the package, surveillance officers rushed in and arrested him, police said.
