Dentist detained over sexual assault

A DENTIST has been detained for allegedly putting his genitals in the mouth of a female patient in a Shanghai hospital, officials said yesterday.
The man, who was described as an "excellent worker" by colleagues, is said to have told the woman to close her eyes and open her mouth before carrying out the alleged assault.
The incident occurred in the Qinpu Zhongshan Hospital last Friday, a hospital official, surnamed Wang, said.
Wang told Shanghai Daily that the dentist, who is around 28 years old, held a masters degree and had worked at the hospital for two years.
"He has been an excellent dentist who has never shown any sign of behaving like this," Wang added.
Another dentist at the hospital said he was a popular member of staff, seen as "a ray of sunshine" by colleagues.
"I don't want to believe that he would do such a terrible thing," said the dentist who asked not to be named.
Wang said the man had a girlfriend and the couple had already applied for a marriage certificate.
The hospital alerted the police when relatives of the woman arrived and accused the dentist of carrying out a sexual assault.
According to Qingpu District police, the alleged victim is still traumatized.
