Disneyland Hotel topped out
Shanghai Disney Resort today announced the topping out of the 420-room Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and released photographs of the resort’s construction progress.
Designed to be the signature hotel in the Pudong New Area theme park and resort, work began on the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel a year ago.
The hotel will have an Art Nouveau style with a touch of Disney magic and imagination, said Disney resort officials.
It will also offer guests stunning views of Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown and the resort’s central lake, they added.
Disney released photographs of the hotel and the Toy Story Hotel.
Photographs of progress on major attraction Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure were also released for the first time.
It will be the centerpiece of Treasure Cove, Disney’s first Pirates-themed land.
Vertical construction of the resort began in October 2013.
The first topping out occurred in December 2013, in a building in Disneytown. Topping out took place at Toy Story Hotel in January 2014 and the resort’s iconic mountain last December.
Last April, the resort’s shareholders jointly announced an accelerated expansion plan to capitalize on the tremendous growth in China’s tourism sector.
Yesterday, foreign media reports said the opening of Shanghai Disneyland, which was set to debut this year, has been put back until the first half of next year.
Walt Disney claimed the delay was due to an expansion of its plans for the theme park, Reuters news agency quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying.
The results of consumer studies and weather concerns had also played a part in the decision, the person said.
