District takes decisive measures
THE Minhang District government had taken firm action in the wake of the tragic June 27 building collapse, the inquiry team set up by the Shanghai government said at a news briefing yesterday.
Que Jingde, the second biggest shareholder in the site's developer, Meidu Real Estate Co Ltd, and also assistant to the governor of Meilong Town, was removed from all posts awaiting further investigation.
The government said Que's position as assistant to the director Meilong Town was "invalid" since he was "irregularly" authorized by Cai Jianzhong, Party secretary of the town.
Cai was suspended from his position and put under investigation for "overstepping his authority."
Meidu had 24 shareholders when the company was privatized in 2001, none of them officially with government departments.
Meilong Town's land-acquisition office's license will be revoked.
