Doctors to help 'little monster' with mole

An 18-month-old Jiangxi Province girl who was considered a "little monster" and abandoned by her family twice because she has a black mole covering about 75 percent of her back will be able to get treatment in Shanghai.

With others' help, the girl and her foster parents arrived in the city and doctors at Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital told them the mole is not cancerous and a series of skin transplants can be done to cover it.

"As she is still very young, we will wait to do the transplants until she is four or five years old," said Lin Li'ai, a hospital official.

She said the cost for the entire treatment will be 100,000 yuan (US$15,873) to 200,000 yuan.

"Since her foster parents are ordinary workers with a meager income, the hospital will offer a discount," Lin said. "We also want more people to help the girl."

The girl was born into a farmer's family and was abandoned by her parents days after delivery because of the mole.

Her grandma took her in and raised her for one year. Unable to stand the unkind words said by others, the grandmother gave her to someone to find foster parents for the child.

The girl was adopted by her foster parents in Nanchang two months ago.
