Domestic private jet touches down for city fair

CHINA’S first domestically developed private jet is on display at the five-day China International Industry Fair, which opens today.
The jet developer, Shanghai Oxai Aircraft Co, said the nation’s current reforms regarding low altitude airspace will greatly boost the private jet market and it is important to get prepared for the opportunity through developing technologies with China’s own intellectual property rights.
Low altitude airspace has previously been under strict government control.
Aircraft and space and marine equipment are all on display at the fair, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong New Area.
“The military and civilian aviation authorities have announced low-altitude airspace reform in an effort to improve the utilization of airspace, simplify approval procedures and promote private jets,” said Roger Mao, CEO of Shanghai Oxai, which was displaying its Skywave amphibious plane. “Details are expected next year.”
The Skywave can fly at a height of 3,500 meters with a range of 700 kilometers. The price tag is 1.8 million yuan (US$290,000).
“The major use of such aircraft is for entertainment and many wealthy people have shown an interest,” Mao told Shanghai Daily.
