Dozens of companies pick up prestigious food safety awards

US-based Ecolab Inc, a food safety and environmental protection solutions provider, selected more than 30 companies in Shanghai for food safety awards today.

The 33 companies included Carrefour, Yakult and Shanghai Min. They were awarded Seven Star awards for best supply chain management, best corporate social responsibility, best quality control and best innovative healthy food.

About 100 food enterprises in Shanghai signed up to compete for the awards this year, said Tim Wang, senior vice president of Ecolab and general manager of Ecolab China.

"Since the Food Safety Law was promulgated and implemented in 2009, we have witnessed some progress being made by China in food safety,” Wang said.

He said the food safety information available to the general public has become more transparent, a growing number of enterprises have made food safety a top priority and exchanges within the food industry have become more frequent.
