Driver sentenced for dragging car park attendant

A DRIVER who dragged a car park attendant along the road as he attempted to avoid a 10 yuan (US$1.6) parking fee was sentenced yesterday.
The motorist, surnamed Jiang, was given two years and 10 months in prison, with a three-year reprieve, for intentional injury at Yangpu District People's Court.
Prosecutors told how Jiang parked his car in a city office building car park last June.
Later, when asked to pay a 10-yuan charge, Jiang said he had no money and tried to accelerate away.
But the car park attendant, surnamed Li, grabbed the car door and was dragged along for dozens of meters, the court heard.
After seeing Li fall to the ground, Jiang stopped the car and called the police, prosecutors said.
The court heard Li suffered several fractures, though these were not life-threatening.
Jiang was also told by the court to pay more than 120,000 yuan compensation to Li.
