Drunk patients on the rise in run-up to festival
HOSPITALS have reported a threefold jump in drunken patients as people celebrate the New Year holiday, which begins on Saturday.
The emergency department of Shanghai No.10 People's Hospital, for example, treated 10 people for alcohol poisoning on Monday night alone, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
The city's emergency medical service center said they were called to treat about 100 people for drinking too much last month, the report said.
At Tongji Hospital, 53 drunk patients had been treated since this year. Most of the patients were young or middle-aged people who had drunk too much at company parties, according to the hospitals.
