Drunken man slices cop’s face open with knife
A police officer was wounded while stopping a knife-wielding, drunken man from harming others in a hotel on Monday morning in Putuo District.
Police officer Zhu Yijia drove past a hotel on Zhongshan Road N. shortly after midnight on Monday when he was told a man with a knife was threatening strangers.
Zhu attempted to subdue the man when he was attacked. He sustained a frontal bone fracture and needed 20 stitches to close a gash on his face.
The suspect, surnamed Ji, was said to be extremely drunk when he started abusing other customers in the hotel. According to witnesses, he went out and bought two knives before returning to the hotel. Ji then started shouting and threatening to harm others, the witnesses said.
Police said they were still investigating the case.
