Electronic guides for pavilions

ELECTRONIC guides in both Chinese and English will be available at more than 30 pavilions by July 15.

"We have signed contracts with all these pavilions and are currently working on the content," said Qiu Bin, chief marketing officer of Shanghai You Tu Digital Technology Co Ltd.

So far, the list doesn't include the busiest pavilions, such as Germany, Saudi Arabia or Russia but Qiu said they had been in contact with organizers from these pavilions. He also said the Russia Pavilion was likely to sign a contract soon.

The device, the size of a mobile phone, provides visitors with both sound and video. Currently, more than 100 devices are available for rent at the Nepal and Morocco pavilions.

The deposit is 200 yuan (US$29) and rental 20 yuan.

The device offers two channels, English and Chinese, and the company plans to add French, Japanese, Korean and Spanish soon.

Ten more pavilions, including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Greece and Mexico, will start the service by end of this month. By July 15, the number will exceed 30.

Many pavilions will be providing fast track entrance for visitors who rent the devices.

At present, more than 700 devices are being rented every day, the company said.
