Elevator mechanic falls to death in Jing'an high-rise

A mechanic fell to his death this morning as he was about to fix an elevator in an office building in downtown Jing'an District, police said.
The accident happened around 7:30am in the 50-storey high-rise known as Exchange SOHO on Tongren Road.
The man surnamed Xu was about to enter the elevator for maintenance work when he fell from the 23rd floor, witnesses said. That elevator serves floors from the 23rd to the 37th. It was shut down after the accident.
The building has a total of 13 elevators. Some office workers had to take cargo lifts to avoid crowding.
