Elevator worker falls 8 floors in empty shaft, dies
A 32-year-old elevator worker died yesterday afternoon after he fell into the elevator well of a building in the Pudong New Area.
The cause of the incident was still under investigation, police said.
The fall happened about 12:30pm at 112 Liangxiu Road in Zhangjiang area of Pudong when the victim surnamed Liu somehow tripped into the well. The 32-year-old worker was checking the elevator and did not pay too much attention when the door opened, witnesses said.
Liu might have not realized it was empty when the door opened, witnesses said. Liu fell from the eighth floor of the building and died immediately.
