Environmental association offers kitchen waste-processing machines for free use

The Shanghai Environmental Protection Industry Association has teamed with professional companies to develop a community-use kitchen waste-processing machine, which can be rented for free.

Interested communities can contact the association through its hotline at 400-821-7808 and visit its website www.shaepi.org.cn. A total of 20 machines are available for borrowing.

The machine can extract wasted oil from kitchen waste, and the rest is processed into solids for fertilizer and animal feed. Each 100 kilograms of kitchen waste can be made into 10 kilogram of solid material, greatly reducing waste and helping to prevent illegal dealers from collecting swill oil from drainage.

"Over 50 percent of non-industrial waste in the city is kitchen waste, which will be greatly dried, condensed and recycled through modern technology," said Li Wei, the association's secretary-general. "We want to promote the machines in more communities for city waste reduction and environmental protection."
