Escalator smokes

A subway escalator spewed smoke in central Pudong yesterday, forcing Metro staff to close one platform, the Shanghai Metro operator said. The smoke was spotted around 11:30am on a Line 4 platform in the Century Avenue Station. The platform was closed and trains were ordered to skip the station until operation resumed before noon after the smoke dissipated. The cause was unknown.
