Ex-convict detained over fake money
AN ex-convict was detained for carrying forged notes with a face value of more than 200,000 yuan (US$29,294), Qingpu District police said yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Peng, was seized on Sunday when he returned to his temporary residence from the city's long-distance bus station.
Police said he has been convicted before for theft.
"We have kept an eye on him for more than two months," said Shi Weifeng, a Qingpu police spokesman. "But we are still not sure what he intended to do with the counterfeit money."
Peng went to his hometown in central China's Henan Province last week to collect the fake notes, police said.
Peng was taken to a police station soon after he got off a bus.
Officers found the forged notes hidden in a instant noodle box, police said.
