Exhibition kicks off to celebrate Tongji University's 110th anniversary

AN exhibition opened today at the library of Tongji University to celebrate the 110th anniversary of its establishment.

All the 110 exhibits are carefully selected from about 300,000 items collected by the university and are publicly displayed for the first time.

They are handwritten teaching plans, thesis manuscripts, drawings, teaching appliances, medals and certificates, as well as students’ notes and homeworks.

The exhibits include all-A academic transcripts of Li Guohao, Tongji’s former president and China’s famous bridge engineer, notes of marine geologist Wang Pinxian when he was studying in Moscow University nearly 60 years ago and his field records when he served as the chief scientist of China’s first deep drilling in the South China Sea.

Urban heritage protection expert Ruan Yisan’s camera that he bought in 1980s and carried everywhere for investigation was also on display, together with his drawings of architectures in the Pingyao Ancient City, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

The archives have recorded the history of the university and passed on its spirit, so the exhibition is expected to inspire its students to study hard and work hard in the future like their predecessors, said the university.

The exhibition will run for a month.
