Exhibition of ancient porcelain unveiled
AN exhibition of blue-and-white porcelain from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) opened yesterday at Shanghai Museum.
It features nearly 80 pieces on loan from museums and archeological institutes around the world, including the prestigious British Museum.
"It is widely known that today there are only about 400 existing pieces of blue-and-white porcelain from the Yuan Dynasty in the world," said Chen Kelun, vice director at Shanghai Museum. "The museum thought of organizing this exhibition 10 years ago. Finally it is happening and it coincides with the 60th anniversary of Shanghai Museum."
Mature blue-and-white porcelain was first made in Jingdezhen, an area famous for producing high-quality china, during the Yuan Dynasty in the 14th century.
