SHANGHAI police caught 64 foreigners who had breached the country's entry-exit rules in a recent raid on a local bar.

Another two people, one a foreigner, were arrested for using illegal drugs and more than 30 grams of drugs were seized, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

The report did not identify the bar apart from describing it as one in downtown Jing'an District which was popular among foreigners.

After tip-offs police conducted the raid last week. Most of the foreigners checked were not carrying their passports as required.

Of the 28 caught for overstaying 14 had exceeded their visa limits by more than six months.

Police arrested 13 of the overstayers and fined 20, the report said.
