Expo volunteers kitted out in style
VOLUNTEERS at next year's World Expo in Shanghai will wear uniforms with reflective strips to make them more visible at night, the designer said today.
Shanghai Donghua University has won the bid to design uniforms for Expo volunteers and staff engaged in visitor service, guest reception or transportation.
The university, originally named East-China Textile Institute of Science and Technology, today revealed the technology and cultural ingredients behind its winning design.
"We've adopted quick-drying materials that are shrink-proof, cool, and protect against ultraviolet radiation," said Liu Xiaogang, associate dean of the university's clothing department.
Liu with a team of 50 members designed about 30 different styles of clothes for male and female volunteers and staff for different seasons.
A magnolia design, Shanghai's city flower, has been used in skirts, collars, sleeves and buttons, Liu said.
