Factory of fake brand pet foods shut down
THE city's quality watchdog and police said yesterday they had busted a factory in Qingpu District that sold counterfeit pet food of major brands.
The pet food labeled with brands such as Pedigree, Royal Canin, Catsan and Proplan has been sold online to customers in Shanghai, Beijing and cities in Jiangsu Province, they said.
The suspect surnamed Luo was taken into custody last week when authorities stormed the factory.
The sales volume of Luo's online stores reached 10,000 yuan (US$1,612) per month when the business was booming, according to the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau.
He had been in business since 2010 and sold the food on taobao.com, China's biggest e-commerce platform, officials said.
Officials said the food was not harmful to pets.
