Fake money buys jail time
AN Anhui Province native was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison yesterday for transporting nearly 60,000 yuan (US$8,785) in fake money to the city. Xu Yuchao, 35, had a criminal record of larceny, a local court heard.
On December 2, an anonymous man asked Xu to carry 599 fake 100-yuan notes from Anhui to the city, the court heard. Xu agreed to do it for pay though he knew they were fake notes. Xu was caught at the Shanghai Railway Station by police because of his suspicious behavior. Judges said the fake money, whose serial numbers started with TJ and FZ, had newly appeared in the city.
