Fake visa shatters student's dream

A SHANGHAI student ready to board a flight to study in the United States yesterday had his dream shattered after customs officers at Pudong International Airport found that his US visa was fake.

The man, surnamed Zhang, told police he had bought the visa for 5,000 yuan (US$732) from a broking firm who assured him the visa was genuine or the firm would return all his money, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

He said he had tried to contact the firm later yesterday but nobody answered the phone. Zhang asked the company for help after the US Consulate General in Shanghai rejected his visa application.
