A THIRD of local families applying for the government-sponsored low-rent homes in the past six months lied about their finances, Shanghai's housing authority said.
Of the 4,162 dishonest families, 109 owned private cars, said Wei Qing, dean of Shanghai Residents' Economic Status Checking Center. Another 701 families were found to have conspired with employers to fake income reports.
