Families will host foreign Expo guests

HUANGPU District's Bansongyuan community plans to recruit 1,000 families to receive foreign guests at their homes during the 2010 World Expo. Foreign visitors will be able to visit the families and join community activities.

The community will also recruit 100 groups to put on cultural, sporting and science performances and activities every week.

Meanwhile, Pudong New Area plans to invest 1.8 billion yuan (US$263 million) to equip police with high-tech outfits and upgrade road monitoring around the Expo site.

Cameras and devices to gauge traffic flow will be installed at all major roads in the area to help police guide traffic around the Expo site.

The area has also recruited 5,000 volunteers to promote good etiquette among locals at more than 300 road intersections, 10 Metro stations and 10 public venues.

One million volunteers are required for the 184-day Expo. About 100,000 will work inside the Expo zone. Others will help with Expo activities elsewhere in the city.

Recruiting will start in May. The volunteers' logo and slogan will be announced tomorrow.
