Farm buys pavilion
THE Czech Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo is to be reincarnated on a farm in China.
The Sino-Czech-Slovak Friendship Farm in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, paid more than 11 million yuan (US$1.7 million) yesterday to top bids from seven other Chinese companies.
The farm, a witness to the friendship of China and the Czech Republic, was established in 1956 after it received the gift of more than 670 agricultural machinery and tools from Czechoslovakia to cultivate 6,667 hectares of land.
All exhibits in the pavilion, including various Czech artworks such as sculptures and paintings, will be relocated to a new building exactly the same as the current one in Shanghai. Another 20 million yuan will be invested in the construction, the farm said.
The new pavilion is scheduled to be opened to the public before next year's National Day holiday in October.
