Fatal bus crash kills three, injures 14

THREE people were killed and 14 were injured last night after a bus lost control and caused a multi-vehicle accident in the oncoming lane on Yangpu Bridge.

The three dead were the bus driver, a passenger and a taxi driver.

The crash happened about 9:30pm. The bus ran into a container truck in front of it then lost control and veered across the road.

A passenger surnamed Ye told the Oriental Morning Post the bus was traveling at speed. More than 10 vehicles were involved in the accident.

Some witness said the bus driver flew out of the car and died on the spot after the crash but the bus was still running, Xinmin Evening News reported. It was passengers who pulled off the handbrake to stop the bus finally, the report said.

All the windows were broken, witness said. A female passenger standing near the driver said she pitched forward and felt into coma suddenly after the crash.

Among the 14 injured people, seven had been released from the hospital while the rest seven are out of danger by press time.

The bridge was closed after the accident. The traffic resumed at midnight after all the damaged cars were pulled away.

The middle-aged bus driver had more than 10 years driving experience. Police are investigating and will announce the result to the public later.

The bus belongs to Bashi-Yiqi Transit Co.
