Father held after daughter tells mother of sex attacks

A 38-YEAR-OLD man suspected of raping his 16-year-old daughter over the past three months is in criminal custody, Pudong New Area police confirmed yesterday.
They said the case was still under investigation and declined to reveal more details.
The suspect's wife contacted police on Tuesday after her daughter had broken down in tears and told her about the sex attacks, the Oriental Morning Post reported. She told her mother that her security guard father had raped her more than 10 times since February.
Reporting her husband to the police, the mother said that she had got a call from him last week telling her to make sure their daughter was not making unsuitable friends. He had seemed quite anxious on the phone.
Fan thought maybe their daughter had found a boyfriend and asked her about that.
That was when she broke down and told of the rapes.
Recalling the phone call from the husband, the wife said she began to understand why her husband had appeared so anxious.
She told police she was reporting him to "teach him a lesson".
Neighbors said the family seemed to be a happy one that they had known for more than 10 years.
They said that the wife was now regretting reporting the matter as the family had lost its only breadwinner, the newspaper said. The victim was also asking why her father wasn't coming home.
