Father held after toddler beaten to death

A FATHER who allegedly beat his mentally disabled four-year-old son to death was detained by Baoshan District police yesterday.
Police said 38-year-old Zhang Shaobin bashed his younger son Zhang Jian black and blue after he became incontinent.
When the father, who had been drinking, found his son wasn't breathing, he took him to hospital.
Doctors pronounced the boy dead at No. 1 People's Hospital in Baoshan, finding he had no heartbeat or breath.
The father told doctors that his son had been in a car accident.
"But the doctor on duty, surnamed Tang, found that the injuries did not appear to have been caused by a car," said a pediatrician surnamed Mu. "He called the police right away."
Police took both Zhang and his wife to Wusong Police Station for inquiries.
The man was detained and his wife released. The case is still under investigation.
