Fengxian switches to water from Huangpu River
SHANGHAI has closed all the 18 small and outdated water treatment facilities after a water quality improvement project is completed.
The city's suburban Fengxian District has completed its water improvement project and all its 800,000 residents can enjoy quality tap water instead of well water, Shanghai Chengtou Corporation, the city's infrastructure developer, said yesterday.
The state-owned company said it has spent 1.73 billion yuan on the project to draw water from the Huangpu River and pump it to Fengxian. It also built two water plants with a daily output of 300,000 tons.
Earlier, local people relied on well water which is subject to underground pollution.
