Ferragamo key bag sample contains alarming level of harmful substances: authority
Accessories of a key bag sample marked Salvatore Ferragamo were found to contain an alarming level of excessive harmful substances, the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission said today based on its testing result.
The mark of a key bag sample of the premium fashion brand contained 16,480 mg-per-kg of lead, and its key buckle had 19,122, compared with China's national standard of a maximum 1,000 mg-per-kg, according to the commission.
Excessive levels of lead can potentially cause contact dermatitis and harm the nervous system, the commission warned.
The sample was marked with Ferragamo Shanghai as its producer, according to the commission.
It was also found to contain excessive levels of nickel and chromium, which are also harmful to health.
The commission checked 40 products with simulation accessories bought randomly at 27 big department stores, and found 15 percent containing harmful substances.
Simulation accessories are usually made of metal alloys, rhinestones and resins, and they are often added with metallic elements during galvanization process to make them shining and colorful, officials with the commission said.
But it may lead to harmful substances like nickel and lead that are harmful to the environment and people, they said.
