Film crew in food upset

A RESTAURANT in Putuo District has been closed after more than 30 people involved in shooting an epic Chinese movie had to be treated for food poisoning.

Jet Li and Jackie Chan are just two of many major stars who will feature in "Jian Guo Da Ye," a film celebrating the upcoming 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Neither is believed to have been on set when the food poisoning incident occurred.

Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said it had shut the restaurant at 1510 Meichuan Road because it had sold boxed food without a license and 30 staff and extras on the movie had suffered suspected food poisoning.

After the food had been delivered to the Shanghai Film Park in Chedun in Songjiang District on Monday, there were complaints of diarrhea, stomach ache and nausea and the victims all sought hospital treatment.

An initial investigation suggested bacterial food poisoning.

The restaurant, which specializes in Sichuan cuisine, is registered as Shanghai Peiyuan Restaurant Management Co.

"We'll impose punishment after the investigation is complete," said a local FDA official.
