Fire caused by fight kills 2, injures 4

A MAN who lost a fight with a coworker set the coworker on fire, but the blaze burned out of control, killing the assailant and another person and leaving four critically injured yesterday at a company dormitory, officials and witnesses said.

The fire occurred around 1:50am at Shanghai Ryktro Children's Clothing Co at 9606 Hutai Road, Baoshan District.

The two workers killed were Chen Dengxiao, in his 50s, and 36-year-old Liu Songwei.

Workers said Chen started the fire after fighting with Zhang Yongqing, the worker most severely injured, with burns over 99 percent of his body.

"They quarreled over an issue in work and fought against each other. At night they fought again," said Jiang Yexin, a colleague. "One of them lost the fight and hated the other and poured the company's flammable toluene on him and burned him. Both caught fire. The others ... were innocent people."

Aside from Zhang, two workers were burned over 85 percent of their bodies and the other one had burns of 45 percent.
