Fire fighters captures 25 cobras dumped into roadside greenery

FIRE fighters in Minhang District caught 25 cobras inside a greenery area near Outer Ring Road and Caobao Road Thursday with the source of the reptiles still unknown.

Two of the cobras were found dead and the rest were sent to Shanghai Zoo.

Fire fighters managed to capture cobras after receiving reports snakes were seen in the area about 8:20am Thursday.

The cobras captured were all about one meter long.

Cobra is a poisonous snake and has been listed as second-class protected animal in China.

Officials told Shanghai Daily that they had no idea where the cobras came from, but they suspected the situation was likely the result of 'releasing animals into the wild' as practiced by some Chinese.

Cobra it not a native animal species of the city.
