Flames and black smoke blanketed the view from the skywalk near iconic city landmarks inside the Lujiazui financial zone yesterday, stirring an uproar online when live photos were posted by people on the pedestrian walkway.
With the city's landmark Oriental Pearl Tower and other upscale skyscrapers so close to the fire site, photos uploaded by onlookers raised much attention. The fire started about 2:50pm in an open greenery area being decorated. The blaze was put out in about 10 minutes, police said. They suspected unsafe operation by welders.
