Fireworks canceled
THE opening show of the Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival, which was to feature a display by Japan, has been canceled.
Organizers refused to give a specific reason why Thursday's show, which was also to feature a display by China, had been canceled.
The performance was to have two parts. The first would have been China's "Gorgeous Expo," with the second "Japanese Love Songs" performed by a Japanese company.
The fireworks show is a traditional part of the Shanghai Tourism Festival.
The other two festival performances, on October 3 and 6, will go ahead as scheduled, organizers said.
