Firm must pay worker who died carrying guns

A STORAGE company has been ordered to pay 426,000 yuan (US$62,400) in compensation to the family of a worker who died in a blast while carrying bullets last year.

The worker surnamed Shen died on the scene in front of a storage house in Huinan Town of the former Nanhui District on February 28, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Another four people - two workers, the company's owner and the guns'owner - were injured in the accident.

The company has argued Shen, who was in charge of counting cargo, was going beyond his responsibility by carrying the bullets and was officially off work.

But the Pudong New Area People's Court said Shen was doing things closely related to his job and the storage company should pay all the compensation to his family.
