Fish stuffed with feed
BROWN tablets found in the stomachs of yellow croakers sold at a local supermarket were fish feed, the Shanghai Food Research Institute said yesterday. Tests showed that no excessive levels of banned substances were found in the stomachs of the fish, the institute said. Fishers or suppliers might have added the feed to increase the weight of the fish, the institute said. A local resident, Jiang Jiechun, was surprised while cooking the fish bought at the E-Mart on Linping Road in late March since four of her six croakers had their stomachs full of brown tablets. E-Mart said Jiang could refund, while the supplier of the fish products, Shanghai Fengyu Agricultural Product Co, said it will ask fishers not to stuff fish with too much feed.
