Five European Models Deported For Lack Of Work Visas
FIVE eastern European models were deported after they performed illegally in an entertainment venue in Xuhui District.
The Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau said yesterday that the five, all about 20, took part-time modeling jobs while in China on tourist visas. Foreigners must have work visas if they want to be employed.
The five worked at an entertainment venue on Yishan Road and began walking the runway in July to help attract customers. Police caught them during a random check last month.
According to local police, the models usually glided from one entertainment venue to the next, working at night. But they had never applied for a work permit.
The models left the country after serving a days-long detention. They were also fined less than 1,000 yuan (US$156). Their employer was fined for hiring foreigners illegally, said the bureau, without specifying an amount.
