Flying simulator opens for free

CHINA Southern Airlines yesterday opened a flying simulator of Airbus 320 to public free at its customer experience center in Hongqiao area, the first among domestic carriers to do so.

Local residents can experience how to pilot the A320 on the newly-installed machine which simulates the major buttons and operating sticks in a cockpit.

"The simulator can let customers experience the basic takeoff and landing procedures as well as various weather conditions when flying in the air," said Xing Boyuan, a captain with the Guangzhou-based carrier.

The center on 789 Tianshan Rd W. was the first of its kind established in China by the Asia’s largest airline in terms of both fleet size and the passengers carried. It is open free daily between 9am and 5pm.

Passengers can also experience a first-class cabin at the center that the sleeper seat is electronically controlled, and lets users fully lie over its 2-meter length. It is also equipped with a large high-resolution screen and a complimentary minibar.

Over 30 local children were invited to the center with their parents to become the first batch of customers to try the simulator on the Children's Day yesterday.
