Focus falls on camera thieves
HUANGPU District police said yesterday that they had caught a gang of thieves who stole two cameras worth 40,000 yuan (US$5,884).
The four-strong group lifted the bag carrying the cameras on June 5 about 10pm in the People's Square area. The owner, Cheng Yuzhen, had been sitting on a bench with the bag beside him. The cameras were found the next day after the suspects sold them on the second-hand market for half their value, police said. They have recovered the cameras. The gang was caught on June 19, and officers said they were still investigating other thefts related to their activities.
