Fog alert lifted, traffic back to normal
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau has removed a yellow fog alert, the lowest of a three-color warning system and the first this winter, at 9:15am as visibility improved in most parts of the city.
Water and land traffic gradually returned to normal.
Dense fog shrouded Shanghai this morning as the local environmental bureau issued a yellow fog alert at 6:45am, saying visibility in the area was less than 500 meters.
Trains running on the overground sections of Metro Line 16 in Songjiang and Minhang districts were forced to cut their speed to 60km per hour due to heavy fog.
Drivers were warned to slow the speed within 30km/h on the Nanpu Bridge, while 40km/h on the Lupu Bridge.
Some ferry services were affected, and ferries from Shanghai to Chongming Island were suspended.
The temperature will range from 9 to 19 degrees today.
