Fog delays dozens of flights at Shanghai's airports

MORE than 70 flights have been delayed or canceled at Shanghai's two airports as of noon today due to fog and clouds.

Some 60 domestic flights departing from the Pudong and Hongqiao international airports and eight international ones were delayed this morning, the airport authority said.

A China Eastern Airlines flight and an Air France flight were canceled.

"Many departing flights were forced to wait on runways because of the cloudy weather, especially at the Pudong airport while many arriving flights have been changed to land at the Hongqiao airport," Shanghai-based China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines said in a statement to passengers this morning.

The carriers have arranged shuttle buses to take passengers from Hongqiao airport to Pudong airport for connecting flights, the airlines said.

China Southern Airlines also issued a delay alert to airports across the country this morning.

Twelve China Southern flights from Pudong airport were delayed this morning because fog decreased visibility, the airline said this morning.

Air traffic controls in eastern China also caused delays, the Guangzhou-based airline said.

Fog also forced the airport in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, to cancel seven flights.
