Forbidden romance to intrigue theater-goers

SHANGHAI audiences can enjoy the original German poetry of Friedrich Schiller's masterpiece "Kabale und Liebe" ("Intrigue and Love") next month when the 178-year-old Meininger Theater stages the play.

The performances will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Germany's leading 18th-century dramatist and poet, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

This is the first time the play about a forbidden romance has been staged in China in its original German. Performances are on November 12 and 13 at Shanghai Oriental Arts Center.
