Foreign driver banned
A FOREIGN drunk driver was detained by police, fined 1,800 yuan (US$263) and banned from driving for six months, according to city exit-entry immigration police.
The man was caught about 1am late last month slumped over the steering wheel of his stationary jeep at the intersection of Yan'an Road and Hongxu Road.
A police officer shouted to the driver through the window and the man, "with an overwhelming smell of alcohol," slowly opened the door.
A later examination determined the alcohol level in his blood was 1.93 milligrams per milliliter, much higher than the legal limit of 0.8mg/ml.
The man told police he had consumed more than four liters of beer at a friend's birthday party before attempting to drive home.
