Foul play ruled out in death

POLICE have ruled out the possibility of foul play in the death of a 69-year-old man who was found on Wednesday, several days after he died in his apartment, officials said yesterday.

He was living with his wife in a complex on Hunan Road, Pudong New Area but she was away on a trip.

According to police, the old man surnamed Cheng probably suffered a sudden attack and failed to go to hospital as no one was around to help him. He had been dead for several days before his wife came home and found him at 10am on Wednesday.

According to one of his neighbors surnamed Bao, they had lived in the complex for three years. Bao said Cheng's son and daughter lived far away from his apartment in the city and they rarely came to visit.

Neighbors said Cheng used to visit his old friend in the same complex every afternoon but stopped the daily visits on Sunday, claiming that he didn't feel well.
