Four sentenced in thefts from Hongqiao hub

THREE young men have been sentenced to jail by a local court for robbing 15,000 yuan (US$2,200) worth of oxygen cylinders and iron construction parts from Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub.

A fourth man was sentenced for hiding illegal income in connection with the thefts.

The three, surnamed Li, Wang and Zhou, snuck into Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub on the evening of March 27 by a minibus, the Changning District People's Court said.

Threatening the safety guards with steel pipes, the three men took away 1,400 iron parts from the construction site. They returned the next night, grabbing 22 oxygen cylinders and 600 more iron parts.

The thieves sold the goods to a man named Zhang in Minhang District and got 15,000 yuan from him.

Wang and Zhou were sentenced to three and a half years in jail for robbery and fined 4,000 yuan. Being under 18, Li got one year and a half and a 1,000-yuan fine.

Zhang received nine months and 2,000 yuan for hiding illegal income.
